NOTE: While Sister Poole encourages participation in the Self-Reliance program, the Fort Worth Texas North Stake participates in Community Life Help to offer self-reliance classes to members AND friends in the community. During these monthly meetings, Sister Poole offers valuable resource training that you can use in addition to the Community Life Help classes. Topics rotate every four months.
Topic:
22.1.3 Employment, Education, Development Counseling, Literacy & EnglishConnect
- Developing the capacity to work will help members contribute to their families, the Church, and the world.
Members are counseled to work hard and be honest in all they do.
The Savior taught that “the glory of God is intelligence” (Doctrine and Covenants 93:36). He also taught, “Seek
learning, even by study and also by faith” (Doctrine and Covenants 88:118; see also 130:18). Church leaders
encourage members to engage in efforts to increase literacy, learning, and skills training. Education or
vocational training can lead to better employment so members can provide for personal and family needs. - Training: Accessing Employment Services – employment.churchofjesuschrist.org; Education
opportunities; Development Counseling Services, new EnglishConnect Resources and what about
Literacy? - As always, other resources will also be shared.
